W.A.Y.S. Weekly Update

Dear WAYS Community,

Happy Daylight Savings time!  I’m sure there will be some sleepy children on Monday morning.  Last week WAYS celebrated Dr Seuss’s birthday  with some fun rhyming, reading and writing activities.  Ms Trice’s 3rd grade students participated in Accelerated Reader’s “read the most from coast to coast”.

The fourth grade students all took the CST writing test where they demonstrated how they have learned to write grammatically correct interesting narratives.

We celebrated our monthly students of the month in our awards assembly on Friday, and on Saturday, select students were given tickets to see a live improvisational show at the Geffen Theatre in Westwood.

As we head towards our spring break (March 25-April 1) we are quite busy bees.  Both the Kindergarten and 2nd grade will be attending field trips this week.  We are also having a Science Assembly on “The Magic of Science” by Mobile Ed Productions on Tuesday. Our WAYS families are invited to a “make and take” workshop with Dr Neil on Thursday, March 14th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Manchester campus where parents can make instructional materials to support their child’s educational program.  At this workshop whatever you make, you take.  Materials will be available to make games for reading and mathematics. (see attached flyer Make it and Take it Workshop)

The 20th annual Charter School Conference is this week in San Diego.  There are 15 parent representatives from WAYS that are going to attend this informative event.  We are grateful to Pastor Tullous who has generously sponsored them.

Thank you to all the parents who met with teachers these past two weeks for parent conferences.  Working together with us will lead to your child’s success in school.

Surprising secrets to school success

Notes:

  • Please remember to wear uniforms.  Fun Friday is only on indicated calendar days, not every Friday. If you have gently used uniforms we would love to have them in the office.
  • Do you know anyone who will be a Kindergartener next year?  Now is the time for them to think about WAYS as an option.  If you do, please have them call us in the office and we can arrange for a tour.

Have a great Sunday!

Sincerely,

Karen Horowitz
Vice Principal
